The European Commission is proposing several steps to modernize the EU’s current VAT system within the initiative of VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA). One of the primary goals of the initiative is to implement a new tax reporting system, including the obligation to issue electronic invoices.

Even though the ViDA initiative is delayed due to missing political agreement, single EU Member States continue to implement or evaluate the implementation of e-invoicing systems for B2B transactions but also for B2C transactions.
