Marek Furtek passed away on May 14, 2025

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Marek Furtek, founder of M. Furtek i Wspólnicy (established 2001), which in 2009 transformed into Furtek Komosa Aleksandrowicz law firm and subsequently merged with Andersen Tax&Legal. In addition to his academic work at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, he was previously a partner-founder of several leading law firms, including Poland’s first specialized firm established to assist business entities – Consultor (1985).

Marek Furtek was a man of innumerable interests and passions. He combined his profound expertise in law — especially civil and commercial law — with an excellent knowledge of literature, film, history, philosophy, and several sports disciplines, particularly professional boxing and cycling. He was also an expert on wine and cuisine. He had a great sense of humor and was self-ironic.  We could go on listing his qualities for a long time. Every meeting with him was inspirational.

His merits in the arena of arbitration, especially many years of leadership of the Arbitration Court at the National Chamber of Commerce, will certainly be written about by others who, together with Marek, developed and modernized Poland’s largest and most distinguished arbitration court.

Marek was an excellent lawyer with an extremely sharp mind who always considered legal problems and issues in a broad context. He believed that the form of a message was as important as its content. He expressed his thoughts perfectly and precisely and expected the same from his colleagues. Many younger lawyers owe him a great deal in this regard. We will all miss him greatly.
